S&C Electric Company Europe - Zero Landfill Initiative

S&C Electric Company is a global provider of equipment and services for large scale electric power systems. It is supporting the transition to a low carbon future by maximising existing grid assets and providing technologies to plug in renewable energy sources.
The company’s Zero Landfill initiative aims to achieve 100% zero waste by 2016 across its business worldwide. The Swansea office, which houses a team of 16 staff, has already reached recycling rates of 99.9% and is expecting to meet the zero waste target this year.
Multiple collections points have been installed in the offices to make recycling easy. Recycled paper is used, printing is done double-sided and scrap paper used where possible.
In addition to reducing waste within its offices, waste incurred in the field – such as packaging, excess materials and scrap – is also being responsibly recycled.
A key component of the initiative has been the engagement of all staff within the company through information, education and promoting the central message - that environmental sustainability is important for a sustainable business.
The judges were impressed with the enthusiasm of staff and particularly the passion shown by the managing director and the willingness to share good practice both within the company and externally.
