S&C Electric Company Europe - CEMARS
The work of S&C Electric Company is largely based around making the National Grid more efficient and reliable, and providing storage systems to enable renewable energy systems to be connected. So in that sense is linked to reducing carbon.
Last year, following on from its Zero Waste Initiative, the company was awarded the ISO accreditation CEMARS in recognition of its work on measuring their UK carbon emissions and committing to a 10% improvement over the next five years.
To achieve the reduction, the company implemented an employee awareness programme highlighting the importance of energy efficiency practices such as switching off lights and monitors when not in use.
One major policy change was to encourage the use of public transport and increase the use of video conferencing and remote diagnostics to reduce the need for travel. It has been estimated that the change in their travel practices has saved the company £70,000 over the last year and significantly reduced their carbon footprint.
The company values sharing their experiences with others and the judges were again impressed by the knowledge and commitment of the managing director and said that the company is clearly leading the way in this sector.
