Nature DaysNature Days is a local business which develops and leads curriculum-based field study activities for schools and youth groups, primarily on the Gower Peninsular. Its aim is to enthuse and educate children about habitats, biodiversity and landscapes with the hope that they will enjoy their experience and perhaps get involved in conserving and protecting these assets for the future.
Much of Nature Days’ work is focussed on local water bodies and over the past two years has worked with over 300 children along the River Ilston teaching about the river’s features, life in the river, and the way in which people affect and are affected by it. Over the same period, Nature Days has delivered field studies along the Gower coastline and its associated habitats to over 2,000 children. Nature Days also co-ordinates an activities programme for the Gower Society Youth and has recently taken on a project with A-level students at Morriston Comprehensive involving a study of the River Tawe. The judges commented that Dawn Thomas – the Director of Nature Days – provides inspirational opportunities for young people enabling them to connect with and understand their environment. |
