Morgan AM&TMorgan AM&T employs 250 workers - manufacturing carbon materials and products used in the transport, power generation and aeronautical industries. The company had been successful in reducing its energy use over the past decade but felt that this had stalled and there was a need for a different approach. So last year they embarked on a programme which aimed to change the mindset and include everyone in energy conservation and optimisation.
The programme focussed on good housekeeping, invest to save, organisational improvements and the use of renewables. Surveys were undertaken on lighting, heating and the manufacturing processes and measures were undertaken to deal with problems and improve efficiency. New equipment was installed and working patterns changed to optimise processes and reduce waste. An employee green team was established with representatives joining senior managers on an energy awareness steering committee. The company also took part in the BITC workplace energy challenge and staff throughout the plant were engaged in the programme. The judges were impressed by the green team approach and the buy-in from the shop floor workers through to the group CEO. They felt that the company demonstrated excellence right across their assessment criteria. |
