The Environment Centre
A focus for environmental information, education and action. The Environment Centre is housed in a restored Edwardian telephone exchange in Swansea’s historic Maritime Quarter. It offers support and a central base for many local environmental groups and projects, and provides information on a wide range of sustainability issues. The Centre houses the Exchange Café and a Green Shop which creates the opportunity for sustainable shopping by reducing plastic through package free products, reducing waste through their refill station and reusable products, and by stocking ethical & Fairtrade products. The building has a number of interesting sustainability features that demonstrate the use of recycled materials, renewable energy and energy efficiency, and there is a small organic garden with raised beds, water features and a composting area. The Centre offers a wide range of educational and community activities and a programme of events. Fees charged for some activities. |
Public opening times are Tuesday to Friday 10am - 4pm and Saturday 10am-2pm (excluding bank holidays ).
Exhibitions are held on various environmental themes from time to time. There is limited on street parking and a public car park nearby. There is wheelchair access within the building. There are volunteer opportunities with this Trail project.
