_ Blackpill Wildlife Centre
An innovative partnership providing a valuable community resource.

Blackpill Wildlife Centre was established in the Blackpill Lido lifeguard hut through a partnership between the City and County of Swansea, the RSPB Local Group and the Gower Ornithological Society. The building was only being used during the summer months so it was agreed that during the winter months it could be used as a base for viewing the wildfowl, waders and gulls that feed on Swansea Bay.

The Centre has interpretation panels and provides binoculars, a telescope and identification guides to help with bird identification. The building also features an outdoor solar powered shower used by Lido bathers and providing a good demonstration of the effective use of renewable energy.

Sustainability Themes:

Biodiversity
Community Action
Energy

_ The Centre is generally open on alternate Sundays from October to Easter. School and community groups can arrange visits at other times but pre-booking is essential. The Centre stands next to the foreshore cycle path and close to public toilets and a bus stop. There is no wheelchair access to Centre.

There are volunteer opportunities with this Trail project.
